Friday 7-14

Worked a regular day 8a-4p then headed home got home and found Stephanie resting.
We decided to get out of the house for a bit.The weather looked a bit threatening so we brought our umbrellas just in case of rain. We ended up downtown Lexington at a restaurant called Cheapside. We split a portabello mushroom ravioli (excellent dish). One issue we had was the iced tea we ordered was stale it had the earthy dirt taste we ended up exchanging it for 2 diet sodas. After dinner the weather that looked like rain was holding out so we ventured out to the street walking down a block to main street where a store that had been wanting to window shop a long time was located. The store is a hat shop called "The Mad Hatter". Looking through the front window you could see hundreds of different shaped sized and styles of hats. While we were gazing at all the wonderful hats the rain that had been looming decided to let loose all at once. We enjoyed the downpour by stepping deeper into the door way of the shop and shielding ourselves with our umbrellas. The rain continued for 10 minutes at a hard and steady rate. Finally the rain letting up a bit we headed back to the car. Most every Friday we get the local paper to see what is happening around town. This night we thought going to a place called The Grapevine and listening to some live music would be fun. Now Stephanie and I enjoy a lot of different types of music with country music being at the bottom of our liked music list, so we were both surprised that The Grapevine was a combination country / 80's music bar and grill depending on what day of the week it is. And of course It is Country Friday's there :-). We did stay for about a hour during which the rain storm returned with lightning making the Air Conditioning fail (extra hot and humid). After the storm cleared it was close to 11 so we headed back to the house and laid down for the night.

Car goes BLAH

Today on the way to work my car (a 92 plymouth) decided to go blah and lock up on me.
I was almost to work when it happened so I called my boss and he sent a tow truck and the chief out to pick me up
A friend of mine works at the shop the tow truck came from so I had him look at the car to see what he thought
It was as I expected the car was done foe not worth putting any money into it
My Chief is temporarly letting me use his truck to go back and forth to work
My friend at the shop has a car (96 camry) that he is working on getting a clean title to that he will let me buy on time through him. hopefuly the title comes through soon.

I posted this in short sentences or statements since that is how I feel about this ( matter of fact like )

Biddie Night

In order from left to right:

Amanda--Guitar, Vocals
Deidre--Piano, Melodica, Vocals
Saskia--Bass, Vocals
Lee Ann--Lead Vocals

Stephanie and I went to the Mad Cow Theater in Orlando Florida during the Cabaret Festival to see the Lascivious Biddies! The Biddies call their type of music "cocktail pop". Although they originally sang in clubs around New York City, they became well known in just the past year though podcasting, which is where I first becamed intrigued by their style.

This is from their website:
The Lascivious Biddies, an all female cocktail pop quartet based in New York City, have earned a reputation for having an energetic and tightly woven live show, full of laughter, expert musicianship and a dash of sentimentality. At SXSW 2005 the Biddies made a splash with the media and fans alike. "If the Donnas are rock's answer to girl power, then the Lascivious Biddies are jazz's answer to female singularity." (The Austin American-Statesman). The Washington Post calls them "Manhattan's Hippest Girl Group." According to Time Out New York, the Biddies' second album, Get Lucky, overflows with "angelic vocal harmonies, wordy humor, jazz chops and pop moxie."

After listening to their CD's many times, it was fun to see all my favorites performed live. I enjoyed the DVD of their live performance in New York (available on their website) but nothing comes close to seeing them in person. I could tell they enjoy what they do by their expressive faces and the fun interactions they had on stage. If you ever have a chance to see them live don't miss it.

I hope that they will add Kentucky to their tour schedule coming up in the fall of this year.
